Whether it’s something you have noticed before or not, exercising can actually greatly increase your high, while simultaneously allowing you to work out more efficiently, comfortably and for longer. Although most people wouldn’t consider Marijuana to be one of the best motivators for exercise, the fact remains that if done together, both the high and the exercise are increased. Read on to learn more about Marijuana and Exercise.
It’s time to drop the old lazy stoner stereotypes and hit the gym, while possibly burning off some of those munchies at the same time. Your body will thank you in more ways than one.
Check out some of these tips to get going after toking it up:
1. You’ll Get Higher Than Usual
This means that if you toke up right before doing some intense exercise, then you’re actually increasing the amount of THC that flows through your body and into your brain. Some have claimed you do not even need to spark up if you’re a regular smoker because THC is stored in fat cells. As you exercise these fat cells storing the THC are burned up, releasing it directly into your bloodstream. How cool is that! Next time your stash is running low on weed – go for a run instead, you may actually catch a high from it!
2. You’ll Feel Better After Working Out
Not only is this true because of the sense of accomplishment from completing the workout, but because your body naturally releases compounds that are nearly identical to the compounds found in pot, and it has been found that these natural compounds stimulate the part of your brain that makes you happy and euphoric. Some claim that this is the body’s natural response to the stress of a good workout, and most agree with this conclusion. Others have stated that they are able to exercise for longer because of the relaxing nature of Cannabis and the extreme focus it produces in some users. Hey, while you’re at it, you can even set limits for yourself and decide that you will smoke half a joint or eat half an edible before your workout and enjoy the other half when you’re done – it’s a great way to keep preserve your stash AND your health!
3. Cannabis Will Help You Focus
Consuming Marijuana causes most people to zone out, but if you choose the correct strain and the proper dosage, you can actually use it to “zone in”.
Yoga experts have suggested that smoking before exercising will help you align your mind and body, which allows you to put more focus into your effort, form, and motivation.
Some long distance runners have described using vaporizers or edibles before marathons to help them cope with their tedious treks.
Even some professional athletes have used Marijuana in some form or another to either put themselves in a good motivational mood to get their routine started, or to relax at the end of a rigorous workout.
4. Exercise Is Healthy For You
This is a no brainer. Studies support the fact that regular exercise will help you live a healthier and more fulfilling life while also melting away any stress or built up aggression you may have.
Why not take advantage of the fact that you can actually increase the effects of your high, while simultaneously living a healthier life? If you make it a habit to only smoke weed or consume edibles when you exercise then you might be able to avoid the negative side-effects sometimes associated with Cannabis, such as smoker’s cough or to help you burn off the fat your body stores after eating an edible. Plus, you’ll feel better about yourself while also stomping out the stoner stereotype. It’s a win-win-win scenario.
5. Not So Fast, It’s Not All Good News
Although this is great news for most, some consumers are still keeping their decision to partake a secret from their employers.
Even though weed is now legal in 23 states as of posting this article, there is no guidance for employers to regulate their employees marijuana use. Because of this, most companies never changed their policies regarding cannabis use – even if it occurs at home in a safe responsible setting. This is an unfair way to treat a responsible Cannabis consumer.
What does this have to do with exercise, and why is it not all good you may ask? The answer is very simple;
As we previously covered in another blog post, THC metabolites can stay in your system for over 60 days in some cases. While this might be great for someone trying to catch a high from a quick jog, it might also mean someone could lose their job or freedom over it. Because these metabolites are released when you burn fat, exercise can flood your system with THC causing you to test positive for Cannabis even up to a week after using it! The same concept could apply to accusations of driving under the influence (although most states use blood level tests now, their accuracy is still under scrutiny), possibly getting someone into big trouble with the law or fired from their job even though they were not even impaired at the time.
This is why it’s so important that researchers find a way to accurately test for Cannabis impairment without the unreliable drug tests available currently.
Introducing Cannabis as part of your exercise routine is a great idea. Your body will be thankful as recovery times decrease while your high increases. You’ll feel better about yourself while also removing any negative stigma that Marijuana may still hold where you live. Prove to yourself and others that the stoner stereotype is dead, get out there and get working out! Marijuana and Exercise is the real deal!
