Cannabis newbies and veterans alike have had to learn the ins and outs of the cannabis community through experience. Nowadays, however, you can read an article online to avoid social faux pas and embarrassing moments when smoking or consuming cannabis with others. Even if you’ve been smoking cannabis for years, it never hurts to brush up on the unwritten rules of using cannabis in a group setting.
1. Don’t Mooch
No one likes to smoke with the person who never contributes. Even if you don’t have cannabis (although you should always be prepared) offer something else, like food, music, or simply pleasant conversation.
2. Honesty Is The Best Policy
If you’re unsure of how to pack a bowl or roll a joint, don’t attempt to try it for the first time with a group. Everyone will become impatient and you won’t get the best experience with a shoddily assembled blunt. An experienced user will know to remove seeds and stems to avoid a harsh hit.
3. Don’t Burn It All
It’s hard to notice, but make sure you burn a packed bowl by barely lighting the edge, leaving a “green hit” for the next person.
4. Direct Your Smoke Away From Everyone
After you’ve inhaled cannabis, make sure to blow the smoke away from everyone’s face or else you’ll never be smoked out again. While you’re at it, make sure you’ve cleared all of the smoke from the piece or water pipe. Stale smoke is harsh to inhale, so don’t give the next guy the task of clearing your leftover smoke out.
5. Is It Cached?
Before passing the joint or water pipe, ensure there is still some left for the next person. You don’t want to surprise them after they’ve inadvertently swallowed a few “Scooby snacks.” Furthermore, make sure your joint or piece doesn’t have a bunch of slobber all over it before passing it.
6. Puff, Puff, Pass
When you’re handed a piece or water pipe, you usually only take one hit. However, if you’re passed a packed blunt, you’re allowed to take a few puffs before you pass it on. Most importantly, however, is to pass it efficiently and not let it burn, so save your stories for the end.
7. Show Respect to Everyone
If you’re smoking or consuming cannabis with someone who’s never tried it, don’t pressure them to do it if they don’t want to. If they say no the first time you pass them the joint, try again. Also, make sure it’s ok to smoke in whoever’s house you’re in.
Most of these rules are common sense, but they can save you from rubbing people the wrong way. Above all, you should enjoy your experience and be nice to others who offer you a flower, edibles, or anything else. The cannabis community is usually open and helpful to anyone who’s thinking of trying it for the first time.
